Gardening is a popular hobby, especially as we get older and a lot of people pride themselves on having a nice looking yard. However they are not always too easy to tame and maintain and therefore require frequent physical attention which can leave us feeling sore and stiff.
Unlike playing a sport or exercising at the gym, the movements and stressors placed on our body while in the yard can be less predictable and sometimes even can go for a long period of time. Whether it be mowing the lawn, pulling out weeds, taming the hedges or perhaps digging some holes a lot of stress and strain will be placed on different joints in your body.
Here are a few tips to prevent back pain from gardening;
1. Do some stretches to loosen up your body just like you would with any other physical workout. This only needs to take about five minutes and you can place more focus on the areas of your body and muscles that you are more likely to be using.
2. Do some stretches after your gardening. It will help with your recovery and stop you from feeling so stiff and sore the next day.
3. If you have quite a lot of work to get done in the year, take breaks and do things bit by bit. Whilst we all want to get these jobs done as quickly as possible your body will appreciate the times to rest and recover.
