Keeping Active in Winter
As winter brings with it shorter and colder days we tend to stay indoors more than we would during the warmer months. It can be hard to keep motivated and active.
However, we all know that there are many health benefits that come with being active. Whatever your level of active is, here are some tips to keep you motivated;
- Use your daylight hours. It is easier to stay outside while it is still light out.
- If you are unable to get outside while the sun is still out, find indoor activities. This could be yoga classes, exercises classes or sports such as basketball.
- Plan ahead. When activities are in your calendar you are less likely to forget them and plan the rest of your day around it.
- Set goals. Think about what you want to achieve and how you can achieve it.
- Take the stairs. Whether it be in your home, at the shops or work place, choose the stairs instead of the lift.
- Have an exercise buddy. An exercise buddy will keep you accountable. You will be more likely to plan ahead and stick to those plans if you have locked it in with a friend. This can also make the activity more enjoyable.
- As winter brings cold weather with it, wear appropriate clothes. Find a warm jumper or dress in layers.
